Patients who are strongly affected by their emotions, such as anxiety or fear, for example are deemed not possessing decision making capacity. Those who are unconscious clearly can’t make decisions on own, and outside parties require consent for treatment instead.
Items in an Implied Consent Form
There are certain elements that are generally included in informed consent forms:
The patient’s medical conditions/diagnosis
The treatment suggested by the doctor in charge
The risks and advantages associated with this treatment
There are alternative treatments offered, as are their risks and benefits
The benefits and risks associated with not accepting any treatment whatsoever
